JD Sports, a leading name in the industry, has appointed Prama Bhatt as a non-executive director from 23 September. This strategic appointment is expected to enhance JD Sports’ leadership and vision, particularly in the competitive US market.
Prama Bhatt, who served as the chief digital officer at Ulta Beauty until 2024, brings valuable experience in digital and e-commerce sectors. Her illustrious career includes leading roles at Kenneth Cole and Toys R Us, providing her with over 20 years of expertise in multi-channel retailing.
She is set to join JD Sports’ nominations committee, remunerations committee, and the board of JD’s US subsidiary, Genesis Holdings. Her insights are anticipated to be invaluable in navigating the complexities of the US retail environment.
This move follows JD Sports’ recent acquisition of US sports retailer Hibbett for $1.1 billion (£878 million), a transaction that significantly bolstered the company’s revenue in North America, aiming to increase its market share from 32% to 40%.
Andrew Higginson, the chair of JD Sports, commented on Prama Bhatt’s appointment, stating, “Following the acquisition of Hibbett Inc earlier this year and recommendations made as part of the Board’s recent external evaluation, the board undertook a thorough search process, led by the nominations committee and using an external search firm, to recruit a US based non-executive director to add that perspective and insight to board discussions. Prama brings a wealth of relevant experience to the board and, in particular, a deep understanding of the US retail landscape.”
Prama Bhatt’s appointment is set to drive JD Sports’ strategic growth in the US market.
