Authentic Brands Group, with ownership of over 50 global brands, has finalised the acquisition of Champion. The purchase is Authentic’s most significant transaction since buying Reebok in 2022. Initially announced in June, the deal with HanesBrands is valued at approximately $1.2 billion, with a potential rise to $1.5 billion contingent on performance metrics.
Champion, known for generating nearly $3 billion in annual global retail sales, becomes Authentic’s second-largest acquisition, reflecting its strategic growth direction. Moving forward, AMG Companies will oversee Champion’s core operations across the United States and Canada.
To enhance its reach, Authentic Brands has partnered with GearCo for the US collegiate apparel sector, BBC International for footwear, and Gildan for printwear. In Central and South America, the Falic Group will take charge of Champion’s clothing and accessories, while IB Group will spearhead operations in Mexico.
This acquisition aligns with Authentic Brands’ ambition to expand its global footprint. Jamie Salter, the founder and CEO, expressed optimism about accelerating Champion’s growth, highlighting the brand’s century-long reputation for excellence and innovation.
Authentic Brands aims to introduce further collaborations and explore new markets, with plans to venture into Europe, Asia, and Australia in the upcoming months.
The acquisition of Champion by Authentic Brands Group signifies a strategic move to expand its influence in the global apparel market.
