Filippo Grazioli is stepping down as Missoni’s creative director after two years, seeking new creative challenges.
- Grazioli joined Missoni in 2022, having previously worked at Burberry and Hermès, focusing on women’s and men’s wear collections.
- He will be succeeded by Alberto Caliri, a veteran of the fashion house since 1998.
- Caliri previously held the creative director role on an interim basis, bringing significant expertise to the position.
- This shift reflects a broader trend in fashion leadership changes, highlighted by recent movements at other major brands.
Italian luxury fashion house Missoni has announced that its creative director, Filippo Grazioli, will resign after a tenure of two years. Grazioli plans to embark on “new creative and artistic challenges.” His career at Missoni began in 2022, following his role as a collections director at Burberry, and before that, he was senior womenswear designer at Hermès. His contributions at Missoni included overseeing both the women’s and men’s wear collections.
Alberto Caliri is set to take over from Grazioli. Caliri is no stranger to the creative helm, having first joined Missoni in 1998 and temporarily served as lead creative director in May 2021. His familiarity with Missoni’s aesthetic and his craftsmanship make him well-suited for the position. Livio Proli, the CEO of Missoni, praised Caliri’s ability to conceptualize garments from mere yarn, attributing his success to his profound expertise and craft, describing it as ‘mestiere’.
Grazioli’s final showcase for Missoni was presented during Milan Fashion Week on the 20th of September. The baton will pass to Caliri for the upcoming pre-fall show. This leadership swap is not isolated within the fashion world; it comes in the wake of similar departures, such as Hedi Slimane at Celine, making way for Michael Rider from Polo Ralph Lauren.
This transition marks a new chapter for Missoni, poised to continue its legacy under experienced guidance.
