The renowned grocery chain is set to enhance its in-store bakery sections through the introduction of more than 30 new items spanning bread, savoury snacks, and patisserie.
This expansion marks a significant refresh, covering over a third of the store’s bakery and savoury snack selections. In particular, 15 innovative products are being debuted, offering unique flavour profiles such as Cheese and Onion Tear & Share Bread and Jalapeno & Cheddar Breadstick.
In the patisserie section, 14 new sweet indulgences are being introduced. These include a variety of cakes, tarts, and buns enriched with seasonal flavours like cinnamon and tiramisu. Moreover, the launch includes a new range of doughnuts, which will be sugared and packaged within the store premises to ensure utmost freshness.
Elizabeth Greenman, a developer of the bakery products, highlighted the focus on freshness and quality, stating that many products are designed to be baked in-store. “Our No.1 Sourdough Baguette is skilfully crafted and undergoes a slow fermentation process for 36 hours, while the No.1 Seeded Ancient Grains Bread uses a specially curated artisan malt mix and is freshly baked on-site,” she explained.
Similarly, Serena Jackson, responsible for the patisserie range, noted the hands-on finish applied to products such as the new No. 1 Apple Tarte Tatin Turnover. She remarked, “We complete the baking process in-store, allowing our staff to add final touches, like a fresh sprinkling of crunchy demerara sugar, just before serving.”
This move is expected to enhance the freshness and overall quality of the offerings, catering to the growing demand observed from a 14% increase in in-store bakery sales compared to the previous year.
The strategic enhancement of the bakery and patisserie offerings reflects the grocery chain’s commitment to providing high-quality, fresh products. The expansion not only meets consumer demands but also solidifies the store’s position as a leader in the market.
