- AI plays a crucial role in improving work-life balance and productivity.
- Female leaders emerge with greater confidence in leadership skills, especially human skills.
The 2024 HP Work Relationship Index highlights that AI users have a healthier relationship with work compared to non-users, with an 11-point happiness increase. The comprehensive study surveyed 15,600 participants across 12 countries, revealing that only 26% of UK knowledge workers have a healthy work relationship. Despite this slight increase from last year, the report emphasises the potential benefits of adopting AI and personalised work experiences.
In light of changing worker expectations, many businesses have yet to adapt their work environments, culture, tools, and leadership styles to meet evolving needs. Neil Sawyer, Managing Director of HP UK and Ireland, noted, “As workers’ expectations continue to shift, many businesses have yet to fully adapt their workspaces, culture, tools, and leadership styles to meet these evolving needs.” The study revealed that 76% of business leaders recognise the urgency to improve employees’ work relationships, a sentiment that has grown by 10 points since 2023.
A major finding is the universal need for personalised work experiences, with over two-thirds of workers desiring tailored workspaces, preferred technologies, and flexible work conditions. These experiences are deemed pivotal for enhancing work relationships, as 64% of global knowledge workers believe personalised work could strengthen their investment in company growth, while 68% see it as a boon for overall well-being.
AI usage among UK knowledge workers has increased significantly, from 27% to 66% in 2024. Globally, AI users report that AI simplifies tasks and opens new opportunities, with 73% feeling that it enhances their job satisfaction and 60% acknowledging its contribution to a better work-life balance. The integration of AI into work routines is also seen as a pathway to more personalised work experiences.
Female leaders have surfaced as a promising element within the index, demonstrating greater confidence in both hard and human skills compared to their male counterparts. With global female leaders showing a 13-point higher confidence in human skills, this trend is noteworthy amidst a general stagnation or decline in confidence among male leaders. However, there remains a disconnect with only 28% of workers consistently observing empathy in leadership.
The HP Work Relationship Index underscores the transformative impact of AI and personalisation on employee satisfaction and productivity.
