This year’s GCSE results, released on 22nd August 2024, have introduced students to a valuable career guidance tool designed by Dukes Plus, an education consultancy firm. ‘Choose Your Path’ offers a unique, personalised report to help students identify the best career paths.
The tool tailors its recommendations by asking for simple inputs such as age, first name, chosen field of study and a subject, grades or predicted grades, and the desired career. From this, it highlights potential career paths, associated salaries, and university courses that align with the student’s ambitions.
According to Alison Bissell, Director of Dukes Plus Consultancy, “Choosing what career to pursue isn’t always clear as there are so many different paths to go down.” Many individuals do not identify their dream jobs until much later, making career changes more challenging. This tool seeks to preempt that by guiding students early on.
The demand for such guidance is evident with average monthly searches of 3,600 asking ‘What career is right for me?’, which has seen a 25% increase year-on-year. Dukes Plus addresses this by simplifying the complex journey from school to university and into careers, seen as pivotal for personal growth.
Students benefit from the opportunity to trial careers with Dukes Plus’s programmes, engaging with professionals in fields like architecture, medicine, and fashion design. Alison Bissell emphasises, “We want to help inform young people of the options most suited to their skills and interests and give them a chance to test-drive these careers before they commit time and money to pursue them.”
For further personalised support, Dukes Plus offers free consultations for students between 12 and 18 years old, designed to discuss and explore transformative career programmes, ensuring that each young person can maximise their potential by making informed career decisions.
The Dukes Plus tool promises to pave the way for students to make informed career decisions early in their lives.
