H&M is marking two decades of its influential designer collaborations with the release of iconic past collections. The initiative not only celebrates fashion history but also promotes sustainability by offering these collections through its pre-loved initiative.
This venture began in 2004 with a pioneering collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld, then the creative director of Chanel. This partnership set a precedent for affordable luxury, making high-end fashion accessible to a broader public and paving the way for future collaborations between mainstream retailers and luxury brands.
H&M is partnering with platforms like Sellpy and global vintage retailers to source these reissued pieces. This move is part of the brand’s broader efforts to encourage a circular fashion economy, underlining its commitment to sustainability.
The re-released collections, featuring famous collaborations with designers such as Versace, Comme des Garçons, and Stella McCartney, will be available across multiple locations. Starting on 24th October in Paris, the collections will be launched in a staggered manner across cities including London, New York, and Milan, eventually reaching Berlin by the end of the month.
H&M’s creative director, Jörgen Andersson, emphasised the chance for fashion enthusiasts to reconnect with these designer pieces, stating that these collections offer a blend of nostalgia and excitement. Ann-Sofie Johansson noted that the initiative reflects H&M’s ethos of making quality and creativity accessible to everyone.
H&M’s re-release of designer collections not only celebrates a significant milestone but also reinforces its dedication to sustainable fashion practices.
