Poundland’s new Perks app quickly became the top free download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play within 24 hours of its release, reflecting its immediate popularity among users. The app is the latest addition to the retailer’s strategy to enhance customer loyalty through innovative solutions.
The Perks app offers customers access to up to 100 exclusive member deals, the ability to collect points in exchange for vouchers, and additional rewards through a gamified ‘spin to win’ feature. This new approach aims to make shopping with Poundland more engaging and enhance value through unique promotions.
Tom Hill, Poundland’s director of digital, noted the company’s strategic advantage as one of the first multi-variety discount retailers to implement such a loyalty scheme. By analysing market trends and customer preferences, Poundland has tailored its loyalty offerings to meet consumer demands.
Initially piloted as ‘MyPoundland’ on the Isle of Wight, the app revealed substantial insights, prompting its expansion first to Northern Ireland and then nationwide. Emma Collins, head of digital loyalty and engagement, highlighted the importance of the app’s gamification aspect in increasing customer engagement, with notable spikes on specific days when customers are keen to earn extra rewards.
The launch of Poundland Perks aligns with the retailer’s wider digital transformation, which included the acquisition of Poundshop.com in 2022. This acquisition facilitated Poundland’s entry into e-commerce, broadening its product categories while maintaining competitive pricing, and further cementing the retailer’s commitment to delivering exceptional value.
Hill explained that understanding customer behaviours through the app will enable Poundland to offer more relevant products, making the shopping experience more personalised. Although still early in its digital journey, Poundland is focusing on integrating more features and potentially collaborating with partners to expand the app’s capabilities.
Poundland’s Perks app signifies a strategic pivot towards customer-centric digital engagement, setting a new standard in the discount retail sector.
