Tesco marks a significant shift in its product offerings by introducing a non-alcoholic beer in its ‘Finest Dine In for Two’ selection, aligning with the growing consumer interest in non- and low-alcohol beverages. This novel inclusion is facilitated by a collaboration with Lucky Saint, presenting its alcohol-free lager for the first time to Tesco’s discerning customers.
Tesco’s decision to diversify its ‘Finest Dine In for Two’ menu with an alcohol-free beer option underscores a broader trend in consumer preferences towards healthier lifestyle choices. The supermarket has responded to the escalating demand for no and low-alcohol drinks, a segment that saw remarkable growth in early 2024. During Dry January, Tesco reported a 15% increase in sales of no and low-alcohol beers and ciders, a 40% rise in spirits, and a 20% jump in wines compared to the previous year.
This positive momentum continued into the summer, driven by more people opting for lower-alcohol options during events like the Euros. Consequently, these products witnessed their peak sales outside the traditional festive periods, surpassing even the figures recorded during Dry January.
Luke Boase, founder of Lucky Saint, highlighted this trend, noting an increasing consumer shift towards alcohol-free options in supermarkets. “Demand for alcohol-free beer in supermarkets continues to rise with increasing numbers of people buying alcohol-free beer when choosing what to drink, whether that’s throughout the week or at the weekend,” he stated. Boase expressed pride in Lucky Saint’s inclusion in Tesco’s range, emphasising the enhanced options now available to consumers, courtesy of the partnership with Tesco and Drinkaware.
Further enriching the ‘Finest Dine In for Two’ experience, Tesco plans to introduce 11 additional seasonal dishes for autumn and winter. This update features new mains like Chicken & Serrano Ham with Beurre Blanc Sauce, Fish Pie, and Flame-Seared Chicken & Portobello Mushroom Risotto. Accompanying these mains are side options such as Roasted Mushrooms in Creamy Garlic Sauce and Triple Cooked Chips with Cornish Sea Salt. For dessert, shoppers can indulge in new offerings like Lemon and Mascarpone Cheesecake Slices.
The evolution of Tesco’s offering not only reflects a response to changing consumer habits but also highlights Tesco’s commitment to providing a varied and comprehensive dining experience for its customers.
Tesco’s introduction of a non-alcoholic beer to its Finest Dine In range is a testament to the evolving drinking habits and preferences of consumers. This strategic move not only caters to a growing demand for healthier options but also positions Tesco at the forefront of retail innovation, enhancing its appeal to a wider customer base.
