Co-op is set to introduce six new suppliers to its stores, marking the latest phase of its Apiary incubator programme aimed at fostering innovative, quality-driven products.
This month, Co-op will expand its store offerings with the addition of six new suppliers selected through the Apiary scheme. This initiative seeks out producers that stand out with unique value propositions, emphasising diversity and inclusion. With over 100 convenience stores set to stock these products, the initiative enters its third wave of supporting emerging businesses.
The new suppliers include Cháps, which aims to introduce beverages inspired by traditional African drinks to a global market. Cheeky Nibble offers premium snacks and cereals, while Eleat Cereal focuses on products high in protein and fibre with low sugar content. Loro Crisps delivers vegan and gluten-free plantain crisps, Family Secret Proppadoms provides a healthier snacking alternative, and Some Grub steps in as the first pet care brand to gain from the Apiary’s benefits.
According to Rebecca Oliver, Co-op’s head of commercial for drinks, frozen, community buying, and the Apiary, the arrival of these brands in stores represents an exciting development. She notes that consumers in convenience settings appreciate product quality and innovation, seeking items that offer convenience, indulgence, or ease of use. For these new suppliers, hitting the shelves is a significant milestone, opening a new chapter in their growth journey.
In a move to further support smaller suppliers, Co-op recently launched a brand accelerator scheme alongside the Apiary programme. This initiative provides both new and existing suppliers with resources for brand development, including masterclasses, mentor networking, and category buyer support. Furthermore, the Gift to Give programme enables larger suppliers to assist in the growth of smaller businesses.
With the Apiary incubator and brand accelerator schemes, Co-op is demonstrating a commitment to nurturing innovative suppliers that align with its values. As these products make their debut in stores, they herald a step forward in enhancing diversity and quality within the Co-op range.
