Channel 4 has joined forces with Leeds-based production company True North to deliver an exciting new series called “A New Life In The Sun: Win a BnB.” This series extends the popular “A New Life In The Sun” format and promises viewers a mix of competition and sunny escapism.
This 15-part series invites British couples to compete for ownership of a charming B&B in France, offering them the chance to completely transform their lives. Across two weeks, participants face various challenges designed to assess their hospitality, culinary, and business skills. The stakes are high as each team strives to impress both their guests and judges.
The contest is structured to progressively eliminate couples until only four remain for the concluding week. During this final stage, each duo takes turns managing the B&B that could soon be their own. In addition to fulfilling operational demands, they experience the lifestyle and environment that could become a permanent reality.
Evaluation is multi-faceted, based on feedback from actual guests and assessments from an expert B&B inspector, alongside insights from a previous B&B owner featured on “A New Life in the Sun.” This comprehensive judging process ensures only the most capable and adaptable couples reach the finale.
The calling for submissions, which resulted in this series, aimed to discover innovative property formats with a strong competitive element. Notably, Jo Street, Head of Lifestyle and Director of Commissioning, believes that the diversity and quality of ideas presented were remarkable. “The calibre was so high we ended up putting six ideas into funded development,” she remarked, highlighting the thriving creativity in regional productions.
Jayne Stanger, Senior Commissioning Editor, expressed enthusiasm for the new format, describing it as a blend of sunlit backdrops, beautiful properties, and engaging competitive stakes. True North’s Creative Director, Julie Beanland, echoed this excitement, emphasizing the channel’s commitment to both the show and regional production.
Produced by True North and commissioned by Jo Street and Jayne Stanger, the series will be distributed by Cineflix Rights. Viewers can look forward to the captivating blend of competition and lifestyle transformation that has become a hallmark of this format.
This new series not only entertains but offers a transformative journey for its contestants.
