Spar has appointed Michael Fletcher as its new UK Managing Director, bringing significant experience from his previous roles at Nisa and The Co-op.
Michael Fletcher, a seasoned professional with an extensive background in retail and wholesale management, has been named as Spar’s UK Managing Director. Fletcher’s career trajectory includes key leadership positions, having been CEO of Nisa Wholesale until 2022, and prior to that, serving as Chief Commercial Officer at The Co-op. His foundational experience stems from a two-decade stint at Tesco, where he held various commercial roles across the UK, Ireland, and Asia.
Post his departure from Nisa, Fletcher engaged in several non-executive director positions and advisory roles, further honing his strategic insights. He was also the founder and CEO of Sleet Brush, where he focused on innovative solutions to address retail and wholesale challenges, leveraging his vast expertise in the field.
Nick Bunker of Spar praised Fletcher’s credentials, highlighting his “outstanding” expertise in commercial, retail, and FMCG sectors. Bunker emphasised Fletcher’s ability to drive excellent business performance and operational resilience, expressing confidence in Fletcher’s potential for a lasting impact on Spar’s operations.
Fletcher, expressing enthusiasm for his new role, acknowledged Spar’s global reputation and conveyed his eagerness to contribute to the brand’s growth in the UK. He is scheduled to assume his new position on 22 November, bolstering Spar’s leadership as the company continues to strengthen its market proposition.
This strategic appointment follows Spar’s decision earlier this year to appoint Dominic Hall of James Hall & Co as President of Spar International, marking the first time a UK representative has been elected to this prestigious role.
Fletcher’s appointment signals Spar’s commitment to enhancing its leadership team with experienced professionals capable of navigating the complexities of the retail and wholesale markets.
