Sainsbury’s has launched its much-anticipated 2024 Christmas advertisement featuring the beloved character the BFG from Roald Dahl’s stories, aiming to bring a touch of magic to the festive season.
The advertisement debuted across social media platforms and major British television channels, including ITV, Channel 4, and Sky. The opening scene captures the iconic ‘snozzcumber’ being sliced by the BFG, who whimsically inquires, “Hey Sainsbury’s, how can we make this Christmas a bit more… phizz-whizzing?”
As the story unfolds, the BFG finds himself in a Sainsbury’s car park, greeted by an employee named Sophie, a real-life store colleague. Together, they embark on a journey to find delectable food, selecting fresh produce such as salmon, Brussels sprouts, and Stilton cheese from Sainsbury’s suppliers.
The narrative progresses to a dining tableau, showcasing an array of Sainsbury’s ‘Taste the Difference’ dishes. The spread features culinary delights like a roasted Carrot Galette, a Smoked Salmon and Maple Terrine, and an eye-catching Golden Forest dessert.
In the final scene, the duo exchange festive greetings, with renowned actor Stephen Fry inviting viewers to “ask Sainsbury’s” for a grand Christmas experience, highlighting their commitment to delivering quality food for everyone.
Emma Bisley, Sainsbury’s head of campaigns, commented on the campaign’s intention to stir nostalgia and joy. She stated, “The festive season is about making wonderful memories, and we’re here to help our customers create a truly unforgettable Christmas with family and friends, especially when it comes to food.”
Bisley further elaborated on the collaboration with the Roald Dahl Story Company, noting it as a unique chance to evoke the heartwarming spirit associated with the BFG. “We hope that this advert captures the nation’s hearts and fills them with joy,” she added.
