From 21 October, Tesco shoppers will have the opportunity to enjoy premium sushi selections from an Asian-inspired food chain as part of the retailer’s £5 meal deal. This addition reflects the growing popularity of sushi, which recently surpassed smoked salmon sandwiches as the UK’s fastest-growing lunchtime choice, highlighting a shift in consumer preferences.
The introduction of the sushi range includes four distinct varieties: Teriyaki Salmon, Vegetable Crunch, Katsu Chicken, and California rolls. Priced at £4.75, each pack is elegantly designed and comes complete with a mayo sachet, sweet soy sauce, and a pot of crunchy tempura pieces. This innovative packaging incorporates a border to prevent sauce spillage, ensuring a cleaner dining experience.
Meanwhile, in a strategic expansion of its product line, the company has also unveiled five new frozen items. These include two types of frozen dumplings: Chicken Soup and Vegetable Steamed, available at £3 for a pack of six. Each dumpling pack is microwave-friendly, promising a quick preparation time of just over two minutes. Additionally, the frozen range now boasts three veggie snacks: Vegetable Tempura Fries, Glazed Miso Aubergine, and Pumpkin Crispy Fritters, priced at £3.25 each, offering versatile serving options as either a main course or a side dish.
These new frozen products complement the existing gyoza offerings and are already stocked in Waitrose, Morrisons, and Asda. The rollout into Tesco stores is scheduled from 4 November, further increasing accessibility for consumers.
With the integration of sushi into Tesco’s meal deal and the expansion of frozen products, the chain continues to cater to evolving consumer tastes, marking a significant step in diversifying the UK’s culinary landscape.
