Harvey Norman, a renowned tech and home appliance retailer, has officially opened its first store in England at the Merry Hill centre in Brierley Hill. The Australian brand has secured a substantial 57,000 square feet of retail space, underlining its substantial debut in the English market.
The new store offers a broad range of products including furniture, dining sets, bedroom suites, kitchenware, home appliances, and technology. Each product category is presented in dedicated areas, with a particularly notable cooking appliance centre that has been tailored specifically for the Merry Hill shopping environment.
This strategic move is seen as a key development for Harvey Norman’s expansion plans. Lachlan Roach, Managing Director of Harvey Norman UK, stated, ‘With over 300 stores in eight countries across the globe, it will be no surprise that we have been wanting to make our entrance to the English market for a while. The opportunity we had to open in a key national destination like Merry Hill was not one to miss and it makes for the perfect home for our flagship location.’
Graeme Jones, Executive Director at Sovereign Centros, noted the significance of Harvey Norman’s arrival, describing it as evidence of Merry Hill’s transformation from a centre with vacancy issues to a thriving retail hub. ‘Delivering and retaining the right anchors has been key to that, most of our big brands now count Merry Hill as a top ten performing store nationally,’ he added.
The site’s development was managed with the assistance of property agencies JLL, Time Retail Partners, and Font Real Estate, who orchestrated the deal, further solidifying Merry Hill’s status as a premier shopping destination.
Harvey Norman’s arrival at Merry Hill marks a pivotal growth point for both the retailer and the shopping centre.
