Sassy+ North has made significant leadership additions to its Leeds-based Radio News Hub, aiming to expand its influence in the broadcasting sector. The creative production company has welcomed Ricky Durkin as the new Head of Content. Durkin, an industry veteran, previously held prominent roles at BFBS Radio, Real Radio Yorkshire, and Heart Yorkshire. He expressed enthusiasm about joining the company, stating, ‘I’ve followed Radio News Hub since the very beginning, and it’s grown into an exciting, dynamic company. I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in; being part of the team and helping it to grow even more!’
Joining Durkin is Dave McMullan, appointed as the new News Editor. McMullan comes from a rich background in radio production, having served as a producer for the Radio 4 Today Programme and leading the newsroom at BBC Asian Sounds. He expressed his excitement about joining the Radio News Hub at a time of notable growth, remarking, ‘I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining Radio News Hub at such an exciting time in its growth.’ McMullan sees the strength and ambition of the team as crucial in explaining complex narratives to a wide-ranging audience worldwide.
The organisation is poised to enhance its offerings with the opening of a new state-of-the-art facility in Leeds. This facility will allow Radio News Hub to deliver 24/7 radio news bulletins, significantly boosting its capacity to serve various stations globally. Mike Semp, Managing Director at Sassy+, remarked on the strategic move, saying, ‘Opening our new studios in Leeds is a significant step in our journey, showcasing our dedication to the creative community in the North.’
Sassy+ was established earlier this year following a merger involving Radio News Hub, Sassy Create, and Through The I, marking its commitment to delivering leading audio solutions and unique creative content. These recent appointments underscore a clear trajectory towards growth and innovation in the North of England.
These strategic appointments and the new Leeds facility position Radio News Hub for enhanced influence and innovation in broadcasting.
