- New customer base enhances JD Sports’ market reach.
JD Sports Fashion has successfully completed its significant €520 million acquisition of the French sportswear and footwear retailer, Courir. This development comes after receiving clearance from the European Commission, allowing the takeover to proceed without legal hindrance.
The acquisition encompasses Courir’s extensive network of 323 stores located in France, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Luxembourg. In addition, the acquisition includes the Naked brand, which focuses on women’s sneakers, represented by three dedicated stores.
As part of the regulatory conditions set by the European Commission, JD Sports is required to divest 15 of Courir’s stores in France and all six stores in Portugal. These outlets will be acquired by the German retailer Snipes by the first quarter of 2026.
JD Sports aims to diversify its customer portfolio through this acquisition. The CEO of JD Sports, Régis Schultz, emphasised the strategic intent behind the move, stating: “This acquisition will broaden the JD Group’s customer reach, adding a more female, fashion-conscious and older customer base to complement the group’s core customers.”
The acquisition marks a significant expansion for JD Sports, enhancing its customer base and market presence.
