Flipbook Studio has embarked on a novel project in partnership with Chester Zoo, aligning with the zoo’s Super-Natural Halloween event to bring an innovative experience to life. This pioneering effort leverages the expertise of Manchester-based Flipbook Studio to craft an entirely original multi-screen immersive experience, branded as BEASTS.
The BEASTS experience is constructed with advanced immersive floor projections and 360-degree visual displays, offering an eight-minute animated adventure. This journey transports the viewer into a fantastical realm teeming with mythical creatures, showcasing the ambitious vision of Flipbook Studio in creating engaging and cutting-edge entertainment.
Distinguished zoologist and children’s TV presenter, Dr. Jess French, has scripted this innovative experience, conceptualising an adventure through unexplored lands. BEASTS serves as a prequel to the fantasy novel Beastlands: Race to Frostfall Mountain, introducing unique ecosystems and mythical inhabitants adapted to their surroundings.
Andrew Lord, Flipbook Studio’s director and co-founder, emphasised their goal to design a profoundly immersive experience that captivates visitors of all ages. He remarked, “We’ve produced a number of unique experiential projects, and this one marks a significant milestone in our ambition to create innovative, location-based digital experiences that seamlessly blend storytelling, animation, and cutting-edge technology.”
Chester Zoo’s head of marketing and brand, Helen Dean, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating that the project aligns with the zoo’s mission to foster a deeper connection to nature. By integrating mythical creatures with real-world species such as snakes, frogs, bugs, and moths, the BEASTS experience also promotes awareness of conservation efforts for species at risk.
The Super-Natural exhibition at Chester Zoo further includes Halloween-themed trails, giant pumpkin sculptures, and family-friendly activities, enhancing the event’s appeal and engaging a broader audience.
The BEASTS experience at Chester Zoo exemplifies how innovative technology, storytelling, and conservation efforts can unite to create profound visitor experiences.
