Flow Creative, a creative studio based in Manchester, has developed a new brand for the Bolton Family Hubs. These hubs are vital resources for families with children and young people up to the age of 19, or 25 for those with SEND. They provide a range of activities and support services aimed at helping families tackle parenting challenges and ensure children in Bolton have a strong start in life.
The rebranding effort focused on creating a character-filled and energetic visual identity that mirrors the vibrant and diverse nature of Bolton families. A simple system of geometric shapes and illustrated characters was employed to craft a friendly and welcoming brand. The gentle colour palette was specifically chosen to ensure accessibility and to encourage families to seek the support they need without hesitation.
Karl Doran, director at Flow Creative, remarked that the restoration of family support services, especially SEND provisions, marks a significant return of crucial resources for families in need. The project was a collaborative endeavour, involving Bolton council, volunteers, and hub team members. Doran expressed his satisfaction with the partnership and the impactful work being done to make Bolton families feel included and supported.
Chantelle Brown, who manages the Children’s Reform Programme, shared her positive experience working with Flow Creative on this project. She noted that the brand’s development was rooted in community consultation and collaboration, ensuring that it felt inclusive and accessible to all. Brown acknowledged that the new branding has been well-received and expressed optimism about its future role in the hubs.
