In the heart of Manchester, a whimsical mural captures the festive spirit by showing Santa Claus taking a playful break on the toilet. This mural, a creation by Publicis London and brought to life by Global Street Art, garners attention in the Northern Quarter on Thomas Street. A matching mural can be found on Mare Street, London.
As part of the Selfishly Soft campaign by Cushelle, the mural seeks to spread a message of self-care during the bustling holiday season. It depicts Santa, a symbol of unyielding generosity, indulging in a moment of tranquillity. The scene aims to remind everyone that amidst the holiday chaos, taking time for oneself is not only necessary but greatly deserved.
Each mural spans over 13 meters, displaying intricate details that blend humour with seasonal charm. Santa is artistically portrayed seated comfortably in a festively decorated bathroom, surrounded by holiday décor and twinkling fairy lights. Beside him stands the mischievous mascot Kenny the Koala, holding a roll of Cushelle Quilted—emphasising the softness associated with the brand.
This artwork will remain accessible to shoppers and residents until the 6th of January, proudly celebrating Manchester as the city’s production mill home for the soft tissue brand.
The campaign, articulated by Martina Poulopati of Essity, underlines the importance of self-indulgence during the festive period. Leanne McLeod, also of Essity, highlights the mural’s role in bringing joy and a gentle reminder to pause and unwind.
The mural brilliantly underscores the importance of taking moments of bliss amidst the holiday rush, making it a celebratory emblem in Manchester.
