Boots UK has reported a noteworthy enhancement in its annual financial performance, largely propelled by substantial growth in online and makeup sales. The company’s turnover has increased by 6.9% for the year ending 31 August 2024, indicating a robust year-on-year performance.
In the final quarter, retail sales rose by 6.2% compared to the previous year, an impressive achievement indicative of the company’s strong market position. Even more remarkable was the growth in digital sales, which soared by 18.7%, underscoring the shifting consumer preferences towards online shopping.
The makeup segment contributed significantly to this success, with sales increasing by nearly 15%. This reflects the ongoing strength and consumer interest in the beauty products sector, supported by effective marketing and consumer engagement strategies.
The physical stores of Boots also experienced heightened activity, particularly in destination health and beauty sectors, as well as in convenience and flagship stores. Airports were another area of strong growth, ensuring overall sales buoyancy.
On the healthcare front, demand for NHS and private services bolstered pharmacy sales, contributing a 10% growth in pharmacy sales and an overall increase of 4.9% for the year.
Seb James, the managing director, expressed delight over these results, which mark the 14th consecutive quarter of market share growth for Boots. He affirmed that the company is strategically prepared for the upcoming Christmas trading period, with an emphasis on maximising the holiday season’s opportunities.
