Celebrity chefs, including Matt Tebbutt, Nadiya Hussain, and Richard Corrigan, have teamed up with the innovative takeaway service School Kitchen to launch a nostalgic ‘School Dinners’ menu aimed at raising funds for free school breakfasts in Yorkshire.
This unique menu features modern takes on classic school meals, with dishes that evoke fond memories of childhood dining. The chefs involved in the initiative include Mitch Tonks, Omar Allibhoy, Will Lockwood, and Tommy Banks, alongside School Kitchen’s Executive Chef Neil Meyer, a former Head Chef of the Michelin-starred Terrazza Bosquet in Sorrento, Italy.
All profits generated from the School Dinners menu will go directly to funding free breakfasts for children at partner schools, including Carr Junior School in York and other institutions within the South Bank Multi Academy Trust. This initiative not only aims to provide delicious meals but also addresses the critical issue of child hunger in the community.
Available for order through the School Kitchen website and app, the menu invites Yorkshire diners to embark on a culinary journey that reimagines nostalgic school dishes with a modern twist. Signature offerings include Tommy Banks’ roast hogget meatballs in a creamy cep sauce, Matt Tebbutt’s traditional toad in the hole, and Neil Meyer’s hearty beef hash. Other standout dishes are Mitch Tonks’ fish pie, Will Lockwood’s tomato and chicken hot pot, and Nadiya Hussain’s cardamom rice pudding, as featured in her series British Food Adventure.
In addition to these mains, the menu also includes Richard Corrigan’s apple pie and Omar Allibhoy’s crema catalana, promising to blend comfort food with innovative flavours, appealing to both nostalgic adults and curious children.
David Nicholson, CEO and Founder of School Kitchen, expressed excitement about the campaign, stating, “We are incredibly excited to launch the School Dinners campaign which brings together nostalgia and gourmet cooking. It’s fantastic to be partnering with such esteemed chefs to offer a unique dining experience that celebrates the flavours of their childhood and also introduces diners to exciting culinary creations. Creating food for good is part of our mission at School Kitchen, so this new menu will be important to help us fund school breakfasts.”
The new School Dinners menu will also launch at School Kitchen’s upcoming Chiswick location in London on 25th October, providing the option for dine-in and takeaway.
York customers can enjoy gourmet school meals delivered straight to their door, while the menu will be available at all future School Kitchen locations, with additional sites planned for the coming months.
