In a strategic move to enhance its on-demand grocery services, Waitrose has partnered with Just Eat, a leading rapid delivery platform. This collaboration aims to significantly increase Waitrose’s footprint in the convenience sector, facilitating grocery deliveries in 30 minutes or less.
The service will operate from 229 Waitrose sites across the United Kingdom, reaching key urban centres such as Birmingham, Glasgow, London, Manchester, and Stirling. Customers using Just Eat will have access to thousands of Waitrose products, including their premium No.1 and Essential ranges.
This initiative follows a remarkable 140% increase in Waitrose’s weekly on-demand grocery sales during the initial six weeks of 2024. The rise in demand aligns with a broader trend where more than one million Britons are regularly receiving grocery deliveries via Just Eat, which achieved an average of 12 deliveries per minute in the past year.
Adding to their portfolio, Waitrose intends to introduce over 550 Christmas products, with 175 being new offerings for 2024, thus catering to the festive needs of its customers.
James Bailey, Executive Director of Waitrose, highlighted the growing demand for convenience and quality in grocery shopping, recognising it as an opportunity to broaden their service. Just Eat’s UK and Ireland Managing Director, Claire Pointon, emphasised the importance of speed in consumer expectations, citing their research where three-quarters of users view on-demand grocery delivery as a future staple.
This partnership represents a significant step towards meeting consumer expectations for speed and quality in grocery services across the UK.
