Uniqlo, a highly regarded Japanese clothing retailer, is poised to open a new store in London’s Coal Drops Yard, a prominent shopping destination in King’s Cross. This autumn, the brand will occupy an impressive 12,000 square foot unit spread over three floors. This move is considered one of the most significant retail deals for Coal Drops Yard since its inception in 2018. The previous occupant of this space was the retailer Wolf & Badger.
In recent months, Uniqlo has been strategically expanding its footprint in London. Following the unveiling of its third store on Oxford Street in April, this new location in Coal Drops Yard further underscores its growing commitment to the London market. The decision highlights Uniqlo’s ongoing strategy to increase accessibility for its LifeWear range to both London residents and visitors.
Alessandro Dudech, Uniqlo UK’s Chief Operating Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the opening, stating: “We are excited to be opening in Coal Drops Yard, the bustling, family-friendly, design-led retail destination, offering us the opportunity to bring LifeWear to even more Londoners and visitors to the city.”
James Rayner, head of retail at King’s Cross, also shared his excitement: “It is no secret that we’ve been working with Uniqlo for some time to find the right opportunity in the right location, so we’re delighted to finally be welcoming this much-loved high street brand to Coal Drops Yard this autumn.” He believes that this deal bolsters their retail strategy and solidifies King’s Cross as a diverse retail hub, offering a mix of well-known and independent brands.
The opening of Uniqlo at Coal Drops Yard signifies a major development in London’s retail sector.
