WHSmith is planning a significant enhancement to its collaboration with Toys ‘R’ Us, an iconic toy retailer. In preparation for the upcoming holiday season, the company intends to open 37 new Toys ‘R’ Us shop-in-shops across the United Kingdom. This expansion will build on the current 39 stores previously established under their joint venture, aiming to reintroduce the beloved brand to more customers.
The first of these new locations are set to open in Bexleyheath, Eastbourne, and Southampton on 28 September. According to WHSmith, this marks the commencement of a strategic plan to increase the frequency of store openings, with an average of three new installations each week until Christmas. This move is expected to bolster the high street presence of Toys ‘R’ Us significantly.
Sean Toal, WHSmith’s High Street Managing Director, expressed pride in the company’s role in bringing Toys ‘R’ Us back to British consumers. He remarked, “Nearly 40 years ago Toys ‘R’ Us first came to the UK, and we take great pride in being the steward of this much-loved brand in the UK.” The positive public response to previous openings has been notable, often resulting in queues around the block, indicating the continued affection for the brand.
Toal reinforced that their plans are far from complete, stating, “But our job isn’t done yet, and I’m pleased to be bringing the magic of Toys ‘R’ Us to even more customers over the coming months ready for the best time of year – Christmas!” This strategic expansion during the holiday period aligns with consumer demand, historically peaking as Christmas approaches.
The upcoming openings of Toys ‘R’ Us outlets by WHSmith signify a promising expansion strategy for the festive season.
