Professor Adeeba Malik CBE DL has been announced as the new High Sheriff of West Yorkshire for 2024-25 following the annual nominations by the Lords of the Council in the King’s Bench Division of the High Court of Justice, an event presided over by the Lord Chief Justice on 13 November.
Malik, who currently serves as Deputy Chief Executive of the QED Foundation, has over 32 years of experience in promoting social and economic equity for minority ethnic groups in the UK. Her career began as a teacher in Bradford and Hull, and she has significantly contributed to various public and private sector boards across Yorkshire and beyond.
Her extensive involvement includes roles on the Home Office Strategic Race Advisory Board, as a director of the Bradford Culture Company, and participation in the State Honours Committee, among others. Malik is also a visiting professor at York St John University and a Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire.
Malik’s accolades include being named among Yorkshire Post’s Top 20 Influential Women of Yorkshire, and her recognition in the Top 50 Northern Power List for Women. In 2023, she received the Woman and Home magazine’s Amazing Woman Award. She was honoured with an MBE in 2004, followed by a CBE in 2015 for her services to public bodies.
The role of High Sheriff is entirely voluntary, with the appointee working to support the judiciary and uphold law and order on behalf of the Crown. Malik expressed her honour at being nominated, a sentiment echoed by Dr. Mohammed Ali OBE, CEO of the QED Foundation, who praised her passion, integrity, and dedication.
