Primark is set to invest €40m to enhance its presence in Portugal by expanding its selling space in Lisbon and launching four new stores in various locations. The expansion is strategically aligned with the brand’s 15-year milestone in the country, signalling a commitment to growth and community involvement.
The new stores are to be located in prime shopping centres including Allegro, Montijo; Centro Comercial Espaço, Guimaraes; Palácio Do Gelo, Viseu; and Covilha City Center Retail Park, Covilhã. These additions will increase Primark’s total number of Portuguese outlets to 14, offering shoppers more access to its vast range of products.
Crucially, these stores will also be the first in Portugal to feature self-service checkouts, showcasing Primark’s focus on modernising the shopping experience and improving customer service.
In addition to opening new stores, an expanded space in the Colombo store in Lisbon is set to open soon. This renovation will introduce a refreshed store design, providing a wider selection of fashion, beauty, and homeware items.
Nelson Ribeiro, Primark Portugal’s head of sales, remarked on the company’s success, attributing it to their dedicated staff who have played a key role in embedding Primark in the Portuguese market. He expressed enthusiasm about further expansion and the resultant job creation, stating, “We are excited to keep growing, investing in more stores, creating even more jobs, and introducing even more Portuguese shoppers to our incredible style and value.”
