This festive season, Carnaby Street is set to dazzle with a pioneering Christmas light display unveiled by developer Shaftesbury. The venture introduces a new era of illumination with its ‘Into the Light’ display. Scheduled to switch on 7 November, it will feature large star installations marking the gateways of the street, complemented by 60-metre-long sculptural light forms that will float above the bustling area. The innovative display incorporates more than 60,000 programmable LEDs, pioneering a unique approach for Christmas lights in London.
Designed to enrich both shopping and dining experiences, the installation also extends its brilliance into Kingly Court. A significant effort has been made to ensure the lights operate entirely on renewable energy sources, further contributing to sustainability in the heart of the city. The display is not just a fleeting attraction; it will remain a staple of the Carnaby Street Christmas experience for at least five years. Moreover, its adaptable nature allows for annual modifications to keep the experience fresh and engaging.
Michelle McGrath, Executive Director of Shaftesbury Capital, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Soho and Carnaby Street has an incredibly rich history of innovation, design and positively connecting with people. The new Christmas lights scheme embodies this, offering a creative and sustainable approach to urban decoration.”
She emphasised that such a well-conceived and high-quality lighting installation carries a long-term vision, intending to craft cherished Christmas experiences that mesmerise both Londoners and tourists alike. This project reflects a commitment to investing in the aesthetic and cultural vibrancy of this renowned area.
The innovative lighting initiative promises to deliver a uniquely engaging and sustainable festive season for Carnaby Street, enhancing its cultural vibrancy.
