Wake Smith Solicitors has chosen Cavendish Cancer Care as their designated charity for the following year, providing significant support to a cause close to their employees’ hearts. The initiative includes a 15% discount on wills to Cavendish Cancer Care’s clients, staff, volunteers, and supporters, commencing this month.
This decision honours the memory of Kelly Pashley-Handford, the firm’s former director of HR, whose passing has deeply touched the team at Wake Smith. According to Stephanie Chung, a member of the wills, trusts, and probate team, employees collectively voted for this partnership, striving to uphold Pashley-Handford’s charitable spirit through fundraising activities.
Cavendish Cancer Care, represented by Kirsty White, the head of fundraising, expressed their delight at the support from Wake Smith. White acknowledges the substantial benefits a corporate partner can bring, especially in promoting the importance of creating or updating wills through their dedicated scheme. A will ensures that individuals’ wishes are fulfilled and their loved ones are cared for after their passing. Including a bequest to the charity can further fund essential services not covered by the NHS for families impacted by cancer.
Upcoming events planned by Wake Smith in support of Cavendish Cancer Care involve various fundraising and community activities. These include running challenges, the 5×5 Challenge, and unique events like the Heroes of Sheffield abseil at Sheffield Hallam University. These activities aim to foster community involvement while generating significant donations for the charity.
Last year, Wake Smith successfully raised over £5,200 in support of another Sheffield charity, PACES, which supports individuals with cerebral palsy and other motor disorders. This achievement underscores the firm’s ongoing commitment to community service and corporate social responsibility.
The collaboration between Wake Smith Solicitors and Cavendish Cancer Care is poised to make a substantive impact on both the charity’s initiatives and the firm’s community engagement.
