Businesses across the Yorkshire region united for a charity golf day at Brough Golf Club, supporting Dove House Hospice and Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK). This event, a fixture for close to forty years, has consistently attracted participants willing to champion charitable causes.
Organised by Rollits LLP, based in Hull and York, the event successfully garnered widespread interest. Pat Coyle, Marketing and Client Relations Director at Rollits, expressed immense satisfaction with the turnout, noting the challenge in accommodating the oversubscribed event. “The level of interest from our clients and contacts was enormous and we were actually over-subscribed! But we managed to fit everybody in and the all-round effort from everyone concerned enabled us to raise over £4,500, which will be shared by the charities,” she remarked. Gratitude was extended to all participants, sponsors, and Brough Golf Club for their continued support.
Rollits has amassed nearly £160,000 over the years from these events, including a virtual one during the Covid pandemic. Richard Field, senior partner at Rollits, conveyed his enthusiasm for the annual tradition, particularly pleased with the 26 teams that competed this year. “We always look forward to taking part in our charity golf day and this year was no exception. We were thrilled to have 26 teams join us for this year’s tournament and I’d like to thank all our sponsors, players, and volunteers for making it possible to organise this event year on year,” he added.
Representatives from the benefitting charities underscored the significance of the support. Brian Deehan, from MDUK’s East Yorkshire branch, acknowledged the event’s role in advancing treatment availability. “There are now 11 treatments for muscular dystrophy which are available on the NHS which is more than ever before and it’s all down to fundraising events like this,” he explained.
Susanne Driffield, MDUK’s regional development manager for the north of England and east Midlands, emphasized the event’s reliability and value. She noted, “This is the flagship event in our region. It really helps because it’s regular, it’s reliable and with Pat and her team organising it, everything becomes much easier for us.” Jonny Bottomley from Dove House highlighted the critical role the event plays in supporting their services. “It’s incredibly important in terms of supporting the work we do, providing care for those with life-limiting illnesses and supporting families and others and ensuring people keep their dignity,” he observed.
The competition concluded dramatically, with Victory Leisure Homes and Walker Modular tying for first place. Victory clinched the win through a countback on the last three holes. James Doyle from Victory highlighted their long-term association with Rollits and the event’s value in fostering business relationships and supporting worthy causes. Meanwhile, Phil Trotter of Walker Modular expressed his team’s enthusiasm in marking their first participation, appreciating the opportunity to meet other businesses while contributing to important charities.
The annual charity golf day stands as a testament to Yorkshire’s community spirit and dedication to worthy causes.
