Leeds-based law firm Ison Harrison has embarked on an extensive expansion of its legal aid services, aimed at supporting vulnerable individuals across Yorkshire. This expansion highlights the firm’s commitment to assisting those affected by domestic abuse, care proceedings, and child arrangement orders.
The firm’s growth was marked by the opening of its 20th office in Selby, a strategic move that enhances its reach and ability to deliver vital services. Starting from September, Ison Harrison will be conducting free legal clinics and workshops throughout Yorkshire, including locations such as Leeds, York, Doncaster, Wakefield, Barnsley, Castleford, and Huddersfield. These initiatives are designed to provide local communities with access to expert legal advice, focusing particularly on complex family law issues.
Ison Harrison’s collaboration with charitable organisations amplifies the impact of these services. The partnership with Wren Bakery, a Leeds-based social enterprise supporting disadvantaged women, exemplifies this. Legal advice sessions held at the bakery’s café and training base in Mabgate offer women guidance in a supportive environment. Clare Sanderson, Wren Bakery’s co-founder, expressed enthusiasm for this collaboration, stating, “We are really excited to be working with Ison Harrison to host free legal advice sessions in our cafe and training base in Mabgate.”
To further bolster their legal aid services, Ison Harrison has incorporated three experienced family care solicitors. Damian McDermott is now working in the York office, while Prerna Kapoor, specialising in family law, and Kauser Arshid, are based in Wakefield. Tim Burt, a partner in the firm’s family legal aid team, oversees this initiative. He confidently stated, “We now have 17 legal aid family lawyers across Yorkshire. This means we are able to provide free legal representation to people who need it; through care proceedings, social services involvement, child arrangements cases, or domestic abuse work.”
Ison Harrison’s dedication to legal aid manifests in its organization of a free workshop at Wren Bakery, aimed at individuals facing domestic abuse or needing assistance with care proceedings or child arrangement orders. The firm’s expanding team and strategic partnerships illustrate a robust commitment to community service and legal accessibility.
Ison Harrison’s expansion of legal aid services underscores its dedication to supporting Yorkshire’s vulnerable communities through growth and strategic partnerships.
