- Kelly Stokes highlights the growing customer demand and need for more staff.
In a move to support those affected by the recent collapse of Wilko, Aldi is inviting former employees to apply for more than 6,000 available job positions across its UK stores. As Britain’s fourth-largest supermarket chain continues to expand, it is seeking a significant number of new team members to support its growth.
Aldi is actively recruiting for a wide range of roles, from store assistants and caretakers to managerial positions. This initiative is part of the retailer’s response to the increased demand from customers, as noted by Kelly Stokes, Aldi UK’s Recruitment Director. She emphasises the company’s ongoing efforts to attract new colleagues to meet the rising expectations for its services.
The retailer, known for being the cheapest UK supermarket for the fourteenth consecutive month as of July, offers some of the best pay rates in the supermarket sector. Store assistants earn a starting wage of £11.40 per hour, with those in London receiving up to £12.85 per hour. Additionally, Aldi distinguishes itself by compensating employees for their breaks, a benefit worth up to £972 annually.
This recruitment drive is not just about numbers but also about providing quality employment opportunities where needed most. With the creation of 800 new jobs in upcoming stores, Aldi is poised to cement its position as a major employer in the retail sector, offering stability and competitive conditions in times of economic uncertainty.
Aldi’s proactive hiring strategy not only addresses its own expansion needs but also offers vital support to those impacted by Wilko’s administration.
