Go Outdoors is preparing to unveil what it claims to be the largest outdoor store in Europe in York’s Vangarde Shopping Park. The significant development takes place in the retail space formerly occupied by John Lewis, a familiar name that began operations at this site in 2014.
The expansive store will open its doors on 23 August, providing a substantial boost to the local retail scene. An exciting opening weekend is planned for 7 and 8 September, hosted by the renowned TV personality Helen Skelton, a brand ambassador.
This immense store will host a remarkable collection of 380 brands, featuring well-known names such as Adidas, Dickies, and Salomon. It also marks the introduction of several new brands, including Sweaty Betty and Under Armour, enhancing the variety available for outdoor enthusiasts.
Adding to the shopping experience, the store will house 30 branded concessions. Among them is a noteworthy first for Adidas’ Terrex line, dedicated to hiking and trail running. The site will also feature the Alpine Café, a new culinary concept offering meals crafted from locally-sourced ingredients.
The launch of this store is anticipated to provide a valuable economic lift, bringing 42 new jobs to the area. This includes positions for 28 employees transitioning from the previous Go Outdoors location in York, fostering continuity and growth within the local workforce.
CEO Lee Bagnall expressed enthusiasm about this new flagship store, highlighting the commitment to delivering top-tier outdoor products and services. The establishment is not just a retail destination but is envisioned as a community hub where customers can gather and enjoy their shopping experience.
