Factory Sounds, the annual initiative by Factory International, is back with increased opportunities, thanks to enhanced support from adidas Originals. This expansion allows up to fifteen participants from Greater Manchester to benefit from financial grants, access to recording studios, peer support, and opportunities to engage in masterclasses focusing on various aspects of artist management and promotion.
The programme was initially conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic to assist musicians and the broader music community in Greater Manchester. By providing resources and a platform, Factory Sounds aims to uplift musicians, producers, artists, and technicians who represent the grassroots of the industry. The focus remains on highlighting voices that are often under-represented in the music scene.
This year’s collaboration with adidas Originals has expanded the programme’s reach, increasing the number of available positions from ten to fifteen. The selected individuals will enjoy a range of benefits, including mentor-led sessions, specialised workshops, and dedicated space to hone their musical crafts.
Rivca Burns, head of music at Factory International, attests to the programme’s commitment to nurturing local talent. “Supporting the development of musicians based locally and globally within our spaces is at the heart of what we do. Greater Manchester is brimming with creative and talented musicians, and we are excited to continue supporting this dynamic scene,” she expressed.
The 2024 cohort showcased a variety of talents, including notable figures like producer RenzNiro, soulful performer Rumbi Tauro, and DJ CHARMS. Previous participants have ranged from rappers and bands to collectives and composers, illustrating the diverse talent pool that Factory Sounds supports.
Beyond the Factory Sounds initiative, Factory International continues to offer opportunities such as the Factory International Fellowship and the upcoming Spring 2025 Artist Takeover for South Asian artists in the North of England. These programmes aim to cultivate artistic ambition and provide exposure to large-scale creative projects.
The 2025 expansion of Factory Sounds highlights the commitment to fostering diverse musical talent in Greater Manchester, paving the way for future creativity.
