Anne Morrison has been appointed as the new Chair of the Sheffield DocFest Board of Trustees after a rigorous recruitment and interview process conducted over the summer and autumn. Her appointment was unanimous, succeeding Alex Cooke, who has been at the helm for the last five editions of the festival.
Morrison brings a wealth of experience from her career in media, having held significant positions such as CEO and Creative Director at Nevision. At Nevision, she achieved notable accolades including the BAFTA, RTS, and Grierson Awards. Her tenure at BBC was equally illustrious, where she directed multiple factual television departments and played a pivotal role in enhancing BBC network television from Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
During her time at BBC Television, Morrison led teams responsible for award-winning programming. Her leadership extended to the BBC Academy, where as the first director, she spearheaded the UK’s largest broadcast training and development scheme.
Morrison’s dedication to diversity and talent development is well-regarded, having served as a BAFTA trustee and as its second female chair. Her current work includes a joint review with Chris Banatvala on the BBC’s portrayal and representation by the BBC Board’s request.
In her new role, Morrison will lead the trustees in governance, fostering an inclusive environment and nurturing relationships with strategic partners. She will act as a public advocate for the festival both nationally and internationally while supporting the festival leadership in shaping organisational strategy.
