BBC Children’s and Education has launched a new series titled ‘Playtime Towers’, designed for pre-schoolers aged between 2 and 4 years. This inventive programme combines elements of imaginative play and educational content, offering young viewers an engaging experience. The series is currently being filmed in Glasgow, adding another significant production to the city’s growing media landscape.
Produced by BBC Studios Kids & Family Productions, ‘Playtime Towers’ presents a distinct format where each level of the tower introduces different activities. These activities are accessed by riding an elevator with the character Bella the Elevator Fun Maker, portrayed by newcomer Rose-Marie Christian. The character guides children through various playful experiences, captivating their interest and enhancing their learning.
Kate Morton, Senior Head of Commissioning for CBeebies, remarks on the programme as a refreshing update to age-old children’s TV formats. She draws parallels with beloved shows like Playschool and Show Me, Show Me, identifying ‘Playtime Towers’ as a modern incarnation designed to create magical, memorable moments for today’s audience.
The show is crafted to resonate with the youngest of viewers, fostering creativity and serving as a gateway to further content on CBeebies. With Executive Producer Anna Perowne at the helm and Commissioning Executives Julia Bond and Dan Flint overseeing the project, ‘Playtime Towers’ exemplifies a concerted effort to infuse educational media with innovative storytelling.
This project marks yet another major show by BBC Children’s and Education to be filmed in Glasgow, following the footsteps of ‘Saturday Mash-up!’, which moved its production to Pacific Quay in 2022. This relocation from Salford illustrates the BBC’s commitment to leveraging different UK locations for its creative ventures.
‘Playtime Towers’ stands as a testament to the BBC’s dedication to producing educational and imaginative content for young audiences.
