The BBC has announced a significant change for its Weekend Breakfast Show, relocating it to Salford.
- James Cusack, known from Radio 1’s Christmas Takeover in 2020, will host the 7am-10am slot starting in January.
- Sam and Danni transition from Weekend Breakfast to host the new afternoon show, Friday to Sunday.
- Jeremiah Asiamah to cover Mollie King’s maternity leave, joining Matt Edmondson for the afternoon slot.
- Maia Beth and Jodie Bryant are set to cover Radio 1 Future Pop, with Oré Olukoga and Swarzy taking on Weekend Early Breakfast.
In a strategic move, BBC Radio 1 has confirmed that the Weekend Breakfast Show will move to Salford. This is part of several changes in the station lineup, aimed at refreshing their programming. James Cusack, who became known to listeners during Radio 1’s Christmas Takeover in 2020, is set to take the helm of the Weekend Breakfast Show, broadcasting from 7am to 10am. Cusack expressed his excitement, stating, “After a couple of years as the cover guy, it’s an absolute dream come true to have my own show on Radio 1. We’ve got so many fun ideas, and I can’t wait to get started from January waking up the nation on Weekend Breakfast!”
Meanwhile, Sam and Danni are set to transition from their current role on the Weekend Breakfast Show to host a new afternoon slot from Friday to Sunday. This move is seen as a step to bring a fresh dynamic to the afternoon listeners.
Jeremiah Asiamah steps up as a stand-in for Mollie King during her maternity leave. He will join Matt Edmondson on the afternoon show from Monday to Thursday. Their collaboration will commence on 2 December, promising a unique flavour to the show.
In an additional shift, Maia Beth and Jodie Bryant will alternate hosting the Radio 1 Future Pop show on Thursday evenings. This opportunity arose as part of Radio 1’s initiative to nurture emerging talent through their Christmas Takeover.
Completing the lineup adjustments, Oré Olukoga and Swarzy are welcomed as presenters of the newly introduced Radio 1 Weekend Early Breakfast, airing on Saturdays and Sundays between 6am and 7am. This rotation aims to diversify and enrich the station’s early morning offerings.
These adjustments reflect BBC Radio 1’s commitment to evolving its programming and supporting emerging talents.
