Paul Cairney has stepped into the role of Head of Marketing at Melius, a cybersecurity firm based in Newcastle. His extensive background includes prominent marketing positions at Newcastle Building Society, Honcho Markets, Sage, and The Co-operative Bank. Cairney remains on the board at Darlington Credit Union, bringing a wealth of expertise to his new position at Melius.
Cairney’s arrival follows a significant financial investment received by Melius earlier this month. The company secured £500,000 from the North East Venture Fund, which benefits from the backing of the European Regional Development Fund and is managed by Mercia Ventures. This funding is slated to support the launch of a new platform version and bolster Melius’s marketing efforts.
As Melius confronts more frequent and sophisticated cyber threats, Cairney underscored the critical importance of robust cybersecurity measures, commenting, “With businesses facing more frequent and sophisticated threats, cybersecurity is more important than ever. It is great to be joining Melius Cyber at such an exciting point in the company’s journey and I look forward to helping it to achieve the next phase of its growth.”
Melius’s CEO, Richard Brown, also expressed optimism regarding Cairney’s contribution. He stated, “The support from Mercia and the NEVF has enabled us to speed up product development and grow our marketing capability. We have been really fortunate to attract Paul, who is a respected marketeer with a strong track record. His appointment will help us to accelerate our brand recognition and growth in 2025 and beyond.” Cairney’s proven marketing acumen is expected to significantly impact Melius’s strategic growth plans.
