In an effort to tackle widespread misconceptions about the environmental impacts of paper, the global campaign Love Paper is unveiling a new initiative. This initiative, debuting as Love Paper Week, seeks to educate both consumers and businesses on the ecological benefits of paper products.
Despite the digital age dominating much of modern life, paper maintains an unmatched relevance due to its renewable and recyclable nature. Unfortunately, misconceptions persist, with a significant portion of consumers mistakenly believing that paper is environmentally detrimental. According to a 2023 survey by the industry initiative Two Sides, 37% of European consumers harbour such beliefs, ignoring the material’s 79% recycling rate—the highest for any material in Europe, as highlighted by CEPI.
The event, scheduled for early February, calls upon all stakeholders in the paper industry, from printers to packaging manufacturers, to participate. Campaign manager Josh Birch of Two Sides UK emphasises the importance of using this week as an educational opportunity, urging sector players to leverage available materials to inform their networks about the sustainability of paper products.
The initial year’s activities may be relatively modest, but there is a clear goal to evolve Love Paper Week into a widely recognised and celebrated time for the industry. By mobilising stakeholders ranging from print publishers to those working with sack paper and corrugated card, the aim is to foster a comprehensive understanding of paper’s sustainability and appeal.
Love Paper Week seeks to become an essential annual event, fostering recognition of the sustainable advantages of paper products.
