Matalan has released a captivating Christmas campaign, created in partnership with McCann Manchester, focusing on the theme of ‘family heroes.’ In an engaging 30-second advertisement, viewers are introduced to The Mellings, a family caught in the relatable chaos of holiday preparations. The ad is built around Matalan’s new brand platform, ‘We get it, we’ve got you,’ highlighting the company’s commitment to understanding and supporting customers during the festive season.
Set in a lively family gathering, The Mellings are seen dressed in their best attire, only to encounter humorous, everyday situations such as disagreements during board games and the surprising lack of wrapping paper. These scenes artistically capture the essence of the holiday hustle, something many families experience but rarely showcase.
Charlotte Dewhurst, Director of Marketing at Matalan, expressed her excitement, saying, “Grab the popcorn, our Christmas TV ad for 2024 is here! I think we can all relate to the Melling’s, where the realities of getting everyone picture perfect at Christmas time are the parts that don’t make it to Instagram! But, at Matalan we get it and we’ve got our customers during this fun but hectic season.”
The advertisement, which aims to resonate with families across the UK, will be aired on ITV, Channel 4, Sky, and various Digital TV channels throughout November and December. Imogen Tazzyman, Executive Creative Director at McCann Manchester, noted the dual nature of Christmas, remarking, “It’s the most wonderful time of year… Right? But as most families know, it can feel like a bit of a mission.”
The creative team at McCann Manchester focused on capturing both the joy and the challenges of the holiday season. Tazzyman added, “Capturing those two sides of the same (chocolate) coin was so important to us – and we’re thrilled with the result. All the gorgeous festive chaos, wrapped up in a shiny bow.
