- Dead Pixels, a Manchester-based creative agency, initiated the project by offering a free commercial film to a non-profit organisation.
- The advert, designed with a compelling narrative, aims to encourage open conversations on mental health topics during a sensitive time of the year.
- Produced pro-bono, the film represents a significant cost saving for the charity, with contributions from various industry professionals.
- Scheduled for broadcast throughout December, the advert benefits from strategic airtime, including a key slot on Christmas Eve provided by ITV.
In an inspiring move, Dead Pixels, a creative agency in Manchester, has developed a television advertisement for the mental health charity Mind. The project began when Kieran Edwards, Director at Dead Pixels, reached out on LinkedIn, offering to produce a complimentary film for a charity seeking to create a meaningful commercial. This initiative garnered interest from over 100 organisations.
The endeavour aimed to challenge the creative team with a narrative project while contributing to a worthy cause. Kieran Edwards expressed a strong connection with Mind and its mission. “We wanted to use our skills to develop a complimentary advertisement for a charity, and I felt a deep alignment with Mind’s team and their purpose,” he shared.
The collaboration involved a team of professionals dedicating their expertise voluntarily. Edwards noted the significant value of the effort, which, if commissioned typically, would amount to six figures for the charity. “It’s incredible that we accomplished such a project without financial compensation,” he remarked.
The advertisement will be aired throughout the month of December, receiving a prominent broadcast slot on Christmas Eve, courtesy of ITV’s media donation as part of the Britain Get Talking campaign. Amy Wing, Senior Video Producer at Mind, appreciated the effort, stating, “We are immensely grateful to every crew member who contributed their time and talent. Our journey began with concept ideas, which, through collaboration, evolved into a compelling script for the film.”
The production enlisted a full crew who volunteered their services, from writing and directing to post-production tasks. Renowned broadcaster Fearne Cotton lent her voice to narrate the advert, adding further depth to its message.
The initiative showcases how the power of community and creativity can significantly impact important social causes.
