Tony Foggett, a founding partner of the digital and creative agency EM Code, has decided to step down after an influential and lengthy tenure of 25 years. Foggett co-founded the Manchester-based agency in 1999, together with Louis Georgiou and Wini Tse. His departure is referred to as ‘unexpected’ by sources close to the company, highlighting the surprise within the agency’s circles.
The agency, originally known as Code Computerlove, underwent a significant transformation when acquired and merged with EssenceMediacom North in 2017. This merger was further cemented in 2023 when both entities integrated into WPP’s Manchester Campus, a move that positioned the agency strongly within the industry.
Tony Foggett expressed that his decision to step down was challenging but timely. “Code is in great shape, there is a super team leading it and the capabilities it’s brought to the group are integral to EssenceMediacom’s future,” he stated, reinforcing his faith in the existing leadership team and the agency’s trajectory.
Foggett reflects on his journey with the agency, acknowledging, “The agency has been such an enormous part of my life for the last 25 years. I’m not quite sure how I’m going to cope with not being around them all day-to-day, but if there’s one thing I’m quite good at, it’s finding the opportunity in change.”
Paul Cooper, Chief Operating Officer of EssenceMediacom North, commended Foggett’s efforts in aligning strategy, culture, and leadership within the agency. Cooper remarked that Foggett crafted a distinctive and powerful business proposition that is primed to drive growth across the customer journey.
With Foggett’s departure, Louis Georgiou will continue to lead the agency, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of digital innovation. Cooper believes Foggett’s legacy will continue to guide EM Code and EssenceMediacom North moving forward, underpinning strategic innovation.
Tony Foggett’s stepping down signifies a pivotal moment for EM Code, marking both an end and a new beginning.
