Warner Music UK has taken a significant step by partnering with Generator to establish a new studio complex at the centre of Newcastle. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the city’s reputation as a hub for the music industry. The investment in this project is considerable, although specific figures have not been disclosed.
Mick Ross, CEO of Generator, expressed his enthusiasm regarding this collaboration, highlighting months of strategic planning and visits from Warner Music’s leadership as key elements leading to the partnership. He asserted, “We’re beyond excited to be in position to announce this partnership.” The collaboration aims to provide world-leading recording and production facilities that will be a source of pride not only for the North East but for the entire UK.
The new studio, referred to as “Warner Music Newcastle,” plans to include state-of-the-art facilities such as recording studios, editing suites, and podcasting studios. These will serve as collaborative spaces for creative professionals, aligning with Generator’s mission to progress the music sector in cooperation with Newcastle City Council and the North East Combined Authority.
Mick Ross pointed out that the North East already boasts a vibrant recording scene, with numerous independent studios forming part of the landscape. The initiative has received full support from local government entities, including Newcastle City Council and the North East Combined Authority. North East Mayor, Kim McGuinness, emphasised the project’s potential to cement the region’s place on the global music stage, alongside upcoming initiatives such as a significant film studio in Sunderland and the MOBO awards.
While the exact location of the new studio is yet to be finalised, Warner Music UK and Generator have disclosed that they are considering a “very exciting” shortlist of venues.
