The renowned Glastonbury Festival is taking substantial measures to aid refugees by organising an online auction. This fundraising event, run in partnership with Oxfam’s Refugee Crisis Emergency Appeal, promises to offer unique Glastonbury experiences to the highest bidders. Starting on Tuesday, 6 October, the auction will run until 13 October on the Oxfam Shop on eBay.
Among the ten lots available, the auction features five pairs of highly sought-after tickets for the Glastonbury 2016 festival. Beyond admission, these tickets come with incredible extras, such as the opportunity to DJ at the festival or activate the Arcadia Spider’s fire effects from its DJ booth. Furthermore, festival enthusiasts can bid on experiences like watching performances from the Pyramid Stage’s sideline or introducing acts on the Cabaret Stage.
Further offerings include a tour of Worthy Farm, led by Michael Eavis, which provides a rare chance to experience the festival site without the usual crowds. Additionally, bidders can vie for access to a private meeting room at Worthy Farm, accommodating up to 15 people, with the stipulation that these experiences must be redeemed by March 2016.
Emily Eavis of Glastonbury Festival emphasised the urgency and significance of this initiative. She stated, “The plight of refugees who have left their homes due to fear and aggression has moved everyone in the Glastonbury Festival team and we want to do something to help. We hope this auction will raise many thousands of pounds so that Oxfam, which has been a trusted partner of Glastonbury for many years, can deliver the support these people so desperately need.”
Oxfam, committed to assisting refugees from various global regions, is actively providing essential resources. Their efforts extend to helping Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan by supplying life-saving water and sanitation services. In Europe, Oxfam is distributing vital food, clothing, and hygiene kits to refugee families in need. Penny Lawrence, Oxfam’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Glastonbury Festival, acknowledging the impactful donation supporting their humanitarian work.
Glastonbury Festival’s strategic auction efforts symbolise a significant contribution to alleviating the refugee crisis through collaborative compassion.
