Buenos Aires-born Adrian Appiolaza has assumed the role of creative director at Moschino, a move announced recently by the fashion house. His debut collection for the brand is scheduled for display at Milan Fashion Week on 22 February 2024. Appiolaza, previously the ready-to-wear design director at Loewe, brings a wealth of experience to his new position.
This appointment follows the unexpected passing of Davide Renne, an Italian designer who had only just begun his tenure in the role. Renne’s sudden death in November left a vacancy that Appiolaza now fills, ushering in a new era for Moschino.
Appiolaza’s dynamic career is marked by prominent positions across notable fashion houses. At Loewe, he honed his skills over a decade. Prior to Loewe, he contributed to Chloé under Clare Waight Keller. His earlier professional journey includes collaborations with Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton and Miuccia Prada at Miu Miu, commencing in 2006. This extensive background fortifies his capability to steer Moschino in innovative directions.
Upon his relocation from Paris to Milan, Appiolaza expressed his readiness to delve into Moschino’s rich history and contribute his theatrical flair to the brand’s future endeavors. His statement conveyed gratitude to Massimo Ferretti, executive chairman of Moschino’s parent company, Aeffe Group, noting the significance of the house’s storied past: “I am deeply grateful to Massimo Ferretti for allowing me to access the world of Moschino as well as entry into a house whose walls exude a history that I am eager to hear. I am ready to transport the maison into a new chapter, with a theatrical touch, in the pure style of Moschino.”
Massimo Ferretti remarked on Appiolaza’s appointment, highlighting the unique blend of creativity and historical understanding that Appiolaza brings to the table. Ferretti stated, “Adrian brings with him a unique wealth of experience, creativity, and knowledge of the history of fashion that will be instrumental to write a wonderful new chapter in the adventure of the brand founded by Franco Moschino.”
Appiolaza’s arrival signals an exciting new phase for Moschino, promising fresh creativity and a renewed focus on theatrical fashion.
