Aldi has announced a substantial investment of over £30 million aimed at supporting dairy farmers through a strategic partnership with Arla, the United Kingdom’s largest dairy cooperative. This funding is set to roll out over the next three and a half years, culminating in mid-2027.
The collaboration is focused on advancing sustainable and animal welfare practices within the dairy industry. The investment will aid Arla’s farm owners, providing them with the resources to enhance their operational efficiencies and embrace environmentally friendly practices.
Aldi’s wider strategy includes the expansion of the Aldi Dairy Farm Partnership (ADFP) programme. This expansion now ensures the discounter covers 100% of Arla’s fresh milk supply, extending its support from 25 to more than 150 British farms. This move underscores Aldi’s commitment to backing local agriculture and providing high-quality dairy products.
Integral to this initiative is the support of Arla’s ‘FarmAhead Customer Partnership’, which directs efforts towards significantly reducing on-farm emissions. Under this programme, Aldi will partake in various farming projects aimed at accelerating the adoption of sustainable farming methodologies and decarbonising dairy production.
Liz Fox, Aldi UK’s National Sustainability Director, emphasised the retailer’s commitment to responsible sourcing, stating, “Our strengthened partnership with Arla allows us to better support farmers while driving positive change in the UK’s dairy sector. This investment reflects our long-standing relationship with Arla and our dedication to delivering high-quality dairy products to our customers.”
Aldi’s investment highlights its dedication to fostering sustainability and supporting local dairy farming initiatives.
