Arla Foods has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative—the United Kingdom’s first free milk ATM—in a temporary London pop-up, marking an innovative stride in their partnership with Fareshare. This project is designed to address dairy poverty and boost the accessibility of dairy products in communities across the country.
Branded as ‘The Milk Bank ATM’, the installation, located in North London, offers free milk to passers-by at the touch of a button. This initiative is more than just a one-off event; it is part of a broader commitment by Arla to supply 100 fully-stocked fridges to Fareshare charities throughout the UK, substantially increasing the capacity for storing and distributing fresh dairy products.
Jonathan Dixon, Arla’s senior vice president, emphasised the mission to make nutritious dairy products more readily available, stating: “We are on a mission to enhance the accessibility of nutritious dairy products for communities across the UK.” This reflects a strategic move to support charities that face challenges in storing fresh dairy items, which often leads to these products being turned away due to inadequate storage facilities.
Ben Ashmore, Fareshare’s head of external affairs, noted the mounting demand for nutritious dairy, which many charities struggle to meet due to limited infrastructure for refrigerated items. Ashmore praised Arla’s generous commitment: “Thanks to Arla’s generous commitment to donating fridges to charities across the UK, many of these organisations can now offer a more varied range of nutritious food.”
This initiative follows closely on the heels of Arla’s partnership with Aldi, which involves a significant £30 million investment in its dairy farmers over the next three and a half years, further underscoring Arla’s ongoing commitment to supporting the dairy sector.
