The advertisement begins with two Asda employees facing the dire situation of preparing their store amidst a daunting snowstorm. Their concern is palpable as they ponder the challenge of getting ready for the festive season. However, a simple press on a gnome’s nose illuminates it green, signalling countless gnomes nationwide to come to the rescue, responding to the call from gardens, pubs, and even tower blocks.
These ceramic characters, Max, Gnibbles, Gnorma, Gnicky, and Gnarla, arrive ready to work their magic, all to the iconic sound of The A Team theme. Their mission is clear: transform the Asda store into a Christmas wonderland. During their operation, numerous Asda festive products are spotlighted, including ‘Exceptional’ mince pies and a George ombre sequin dress, as well as quirky items like penguin bao buns and a gingerbread gnome.
The narrative reaches its climax as the sun rises, and the chief gnome, Max, declares it is time to move on, saying, “It’s time to go Gnome.” The team departs in Asda delivery vans, leaving behind a store ready to welcome Christmas shoppers. The advertisement closes with a creative twist on Chris Rea’s Christmas classic, now titled ‘Driving Gnome for Christmas’, adding a whimsical touch.
