Asda is spearheading a sustainable initiative by investing in two new bio-LNG refuelling stations.
- The initiative aims to reduce the company’s carbon footprint as it progresses towards net zero emissions by 2040.
- These new facilities will be located in Warrington and Dartford, increasing Asda’s network of bio-LNG stations to 13.
- Asda operates the UK’s largest fleet of LNG-fuelled trucks with over 780 vehicles, underscoring its commitment to alternative fuels.
- John Rogerson, Asda’s central fleet operations manager, highlights the importance of LNG trucks in the company’s sustainability strategy.
Asda is making a significant move towards sustainability with the addition of two bio-Liquified Natural Gas (bio-LNG) refuelling stations, developed in collaboration with Gasrec. This initiative is part of Asda’s ongoing efforts to reduce carbon emissions and work towards its net zero target by 2040.
Strategically located in Warrington and Dartford, these new facilities are set to expand Asda’s bio-LNG network to a total of thirteen stations. This development signifies Asda’s proactive approach to environmental responsibility through substantial investments in renewable energy infrastructure.
As the owner of the largest fleet of LNG-fuelled trucks in the United Kingdom, operating over 780 vehicles, Asda continues to lead in the adoption of alternative fuels. This move not only supports the company’s sustainability goals but also sets a benchmark in the logistics industry for reducing carbon emissions.
John Rogerson, Asda’s central fleet operations manager, stated, “LNG trucks are currently the leading alternative fuel option for operators like ourselves and with over 780 LNG vehicles, we operate the largest fleet of LNG fuelled trucks in the UK.” His statement underscores the pivotal role of LNG technology in meeting Asda’s environmental objectives.
Further reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, Asda has reported a 41% reduction in operational carbon emissions since 2015, with a goal to achieve a 50% reduction by 2025. This aligns with their broader initiatives, such as the recent enhancement of their Supply Chain Finance scheme in partnership with HSBC UK.
Asda’s strategic investments in bio-LNG infrastructure demonstrate its robust commitment to achieving a sustainable future through innovative carbon-reduction measures.
