The British Footwear Development Trust (BFDT) has reintroduced its grant programme, which is designed to foster growth, creativity, and innovation within the UK’s footwear sector. This programme provides financial support to individuals and businesses, encouraging them to engage in formal training and gain hands-on practical experience.
Since its inception in 2023, the grant has significantly benefited award-winning businesses, such as Fairfax and Favor. Specifically, their product development team was able to enhance professional skills through various British Footwear Association (BFA) courses. “The grant enabled both junior and established personnel to undertake a variety of BFA courses to refresh current skills, meet like-minded professionals, embrace the latest innovations, and strengthen industry knowledge,” stated Sara Driscoll, the product development manager at Fairfax & Favor.
Helen Errington, a trustee at the BFDT, expressed enthusiasm about the programme, highlighting the potential for substantial positive impacts on the industry and the professionals within it. She is keen to see how these educational grants will continue to nurture talent and innovation.
The application window for the 2024 cycle began on 2 September and potential applicants have until midnight on 30 September to submit their applications.
